Orji Uzor Kalu discloses plan to buy Arsenal f.c

Arsenal football club must have something about them that endears Nigerian politicians and businessmen. Former Vice President and Presidential candidate under the People Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is a diehard gunners fan.

The nine years in a row richest man in Africa, Alhaji Aliko Dangote is an unapologetic Arsenal fan who has even made several attempts to purchase the Giant English club. The latest Nigerian suitor is Forbes rated billionaire and serving politician, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (Senator representing Abia North senatorial district).

The senator who is an ardent football lover had already as a sitting Governor showed his administrative skills as a football club’s proprietor when he oversaw Enyimba FC of Abia state dominate the domestic player league and the continent’s champions league between year 2000 and year 2007.

In a post he made on his verified Facebook page recently, he said “Our success with Enyimba football club between 2000-2007 has continuously increased my passion for football. As the pillar of sports in Africa, I am considering an investment in football and I will buy 35 percent stake in Arsenal FC.

"Our target is to lift the Champions League and Premier League back to back as we did in Enyimba.”

The news was met with a lot of mixed feelings by his followers, hours later; he made another post where he said, “As a young man, I embraced business before I walked into politics. I found greatness in trading before the call to serve beckoned. The records out there are evidently confirming this position.

"I see opportunities and never afraid to make them possibilities. This was richly applied in my love for Football and remarkable results were achieved in Enyimba FC.

"I read some of your comments asking me to invest in Enyimba FC instead, but I can't because Enyimba is a government enterprise and not a commercial entity. I would have long bought Enyimba if it was commercialized. With Arsenal we will make Enyimba become great again with the strategic partnership we are packaging.

"We shall turn it around to create a platform for more of our professional players seeking for international exposure,"

A win win outing for all parties and valuable investment as well. Doing what you love and loving it is where greatness lies. I need 35% of Arsenal to bring back trophies.”
